Heart to Heart: How do I go about seeking greater fulfillment in my life?

Laurie Martin

Dear Laurie,

I’m looking for greater fulfillment in my life but I don’t know where to start. Do you have any suggestions for me?

With an open and grateful heart,

Michelle

Dear beautiful, open and grateful-hearted Michelle,

I’m so glad you are listening to the whispers in your heart that are moving you toward more joy and happiness in your life. By the mere fact that you are listening, asking and seeking, you are acknowledging that you want more and deserve more. And this means that you are awakening deeper within yourself. When our spirit, heart and actions are all aligned, we feel fulfilled especially when we feel we are making a difference. This is an expression of our true essence!

The questions to ask yourself are: What do you love? What you do love to do that time goes by so fast and you don’t even realize? What can you speak about for long periods of time with great interest? What do you care about? What topics do you enjoy to read and learn about? What causes are important to you?

If you are struggling with answering these questions, then look at what you complain a lot about and then ask: What can I do to make a difference? How can I contribute positively and change that which I don’t like? One example in my life is the topic of sustainable living. Instead of complaining about having to pay a lot of money for organic produce I decided to begin in a very small way by planting my own organic vegetables in pots. This brings me a lot of joy! I feel more fulfilled, productive and empowered because this is something that is important to me.

Another example: A friend of mine told me that when she saw a post on Facebook of a college friend’s beautiful art pictures, she was envious. I asked her, why? She said, “I would love to paint but don’t have the time.”

Is there an area in your life that you feel envious of another and wish you could be doing, helping, creating or participating? And, if so, maybe there is a way you can begin doing that in some way by learning the craft, taking lessons or classes, volunteering and creating the time and space to begin.

I find it’s always helpful to sit and meditate. Ask your heart, “What would bring me more joy?” Observe images you see, pay attention to what you sense, feel and intuit. Ask your higher wisdom for help. Trust the information and guidance you receive. Pay attention to what begins to show up and flow into your life. Allow your heart and how you feel to be your compass. Set your intention each morning, “I choose to feel greater fulfillment. I ask to connect within and allow my heart to lead me. I ask to connect with kind, loving people, resources and information that are aligned with my true essence and for my highest good and mutually beneficial for all parties. I intend to stay open, receive and take action.

Follow this one-day at a time, trust your path is unfolding beautifully and trust your own creation abilities! Namaste, my beautiful friend!
